Abstract:
The objective of the present invention is to improve the collision resistance performance of a structural member effectively while suppressing an increase in the mass of the structural member more than necessary. The structural member is provided with a hollow member (1), and a tension member (12). The hollow member (1) is configured with a closed cross-sectional shape from a top plate portion (10A), a pair of side wall portions (10B) which are continuous with both sides in the width direction of the top plate portion (10A), and a bottom plate portion (11) disposed opposing the top plate portion (10A). The tension member (12) comprises a metal plate that is thinner than the plate thickness of the hollow member, extends in the width direction of the top plate portion (10A), and connects the inner surfaces of the opposing pair of side wall portions (10B) to one another to restrict an increase in the distance between the pair of side wall portions (10B).
