Title:
STRUCTURE FOR OFFSHORE EXCAVATION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS577783
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
A structure for exploiting mineral resources in the arctic foreland has a floating buoyancy member which is able to break ice and is anchored by means of a multiplicity of anchoring devices which extend vertically from a water basin in the buoyancy member directly under the buoyancy member to the sea bed. The anchoring devices can be flexible cables, for example made of nylon or steel, or rigid lines, for example a drill-pipe string. The anchoring devices can be tensioned in order to pull the buoyancy member down into a position below its normal buoyancy position in order to essentially eliminate vertical pitching of the buoyancy member.
