To provide a structure of a sliding door whose good external appearance can be maintained for a long period of time by a method wherein the top end portion of the sliding door is brought into sliding contact with a step formed on the inner surface in the interior of a groove so that a stripe-like pressing mark or a recess produced on a sliding contact part between the groove of the sliding door and the step can be prevented from being seen from the outside.
There are sliding doors 1 and a lintel 2, and the sliding doors 1 is slidably fitted into grooves 5 formed in the lintel 2. And a step 4 is formed in each inner side surface of the groove 5 so that the distance between the opposed edges 6 of the groove 5 is made larger than the distance between the opposed inner surfaces of the innermost recess of the groove 5, and the door 1 is brought into sliding contact with the step 4 in the interior of the groove 5. When the door 1 is caused to horizontally slide to open or close it, a stripe-like pressing mark or a recess is generated on the sliding contact portion 9 of the door 1, however, the edges 6 of the opening of the groove 5 on the lower side of the step 4 keeps pressing mark or a recess generated on the portion 9 from sight. Thus even if a pressing mark or a recess is generated on the portion 9, they are kept from sight and the fine appearance of the sliding door can be maintained for a long period of time.
