To enhance the structural strength of a tunnel liner such as bending performance, etc., while reducing the costs of fabrication and assembly, quickening assembly operations, and facilitating for securing quality control and dimensional accuracy.
The liner 8 is disposed along a tunnel shaft wall 7 of a certain cross section which is either circular, rectangular or horseshoe-shaped, etc., for use as a tunnel lining for supporting the tunnel wall. A steel shell 12 of the tunnel liner is used which uses planar steel plates as side plates 13 on two sides perpendicular to the tunnel axis and as a surface plate 15 on at least one side on the side of the natural ground or on the side of a cavity. The liner is constructed of chord elements in the form of flat plates generally parallel to the surface of the tunnel wall. The chord elements adjoining each other along the circumferential direction of the tunnel are formed in a straight line or curved along the tunnel shaft wall on a cross section perpendicular to the tunnel axis.
