Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for performing stud welding on a base material with an electrical insulating film formed on the surface with superior workability and without fail, and also to provide equipment which can be advantageously used for the method.
SOLUTION: While a pin member 14 held on a welding gun 12 is pressed at the tip end against the electrical insulating film 64 formed on the surface of the base material 62, and is vibrated in a direction essentially right angled to the axial direction using a vibrating mechanism 50 incorporated in the welding gun 12. As a result, the tip end of the pin member 14 is bitten into the film 64, breaking the contact part of the pin member 14 with the film 64. Then, in this state, with an electric discharge for welding the pin member 14 to the base material 62 between the pin member 14 and the base material 62, the pin member 14 is stud-welded to the base material 62, in the structure of the equipment.
