Abstract:

PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain the subject copolymer having excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, toughness, etc., by polymerizing a styrenic monomer in the presence of a specific catalyst, adding a specific macro-monomer to the polymer and polymerizing.
CONSTITUTION: First, (A) a styrenic monomer of the formula (Ar is a bifunctional aromatic group; R1 is H or a halogen, etc.; (p) is 1-5) is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst composed of a transition metal compound and an aluminum condensed compound. Then, (B) a macro-monomer containing a polymerizable vinyl group at the end, having 300-10,000 number-average molecular weight, obtained by polymerizing an anionic polymerizable monomer by using an anionic polymerization initiator and reacting the polymer with a halogen-containing unsaturated compound is added to the reaction system and polymerized to give the objective copolymer consisting of a polymer segment having a high degree of syndiotactic structure comprising the component A as a repeating unit and a polymer segment derived from the component B, having 0.07-20dl/g intrinsic viscosity at 135°C in trichlorobenzene.
