To provide a submerged arc welding method of a steel plate which is capable of suppressing occurrence of defective welding such as slag inclusion by stabilizing arc and realizing excellent quality of a weld part and suitable for manufacturing a UOE steel tube, and a submerged arc welding machine for manufacturing the UOE steel tube.
When performing the submerged arc welding of both ends of a steel plate 1 pressed in an O-shape by a submerged arc welding machine having electrode wires 6a-6b, the array interval of the electrode wires 6a-6b is monitored by a monitoring device 7 comprising image pickup devices 8 to pick up images of the electrode wires 6a-6b, an image processing device 9 to obtain the image data by performing the image processing of the signal output from the image pickup devices 8, a determination device 10 to determine whether or not the array interval of the electrode wires 6a-6b is within an adequate range based on the image data obtained by the image processing device 9, and a display device 11 to display the result of determination of the determination device 10.
