PURPOSE: To provide a new compd. useful as a prophylactic and therapeutic drug for diabetes and hyperglycemic obesity.
CONSTITUTION: The compd. is expressed by formula I. In the formula I, R1, R4 are H, 1 to 4C alkyl, 1 to 4C alkoxy, etc.; R2, R3 are H, 1 to 4C alkyl; R5, R6 are H, COOH, CH2OH, etc.; X is -CH(OR')-CH2-N(R')-; R' is H, 1 to 4C alkyl, etc. The compd. is for example, (R*,R*)-(+)-5-(2-((2-3-chlorophenyl)-2- hydroxythyl)-amino)-propyl)1,3-benzodioxol-2,2-dicarboxylic dimethyl ester. The compd. of the formula I is obtd. by allowing a compd. expressed by formula II (Y is carbonyl, thiocarbonyl, methylene) to react with a reagent expressed by CO2R8-Z-CO2R9 (R8, R9 are 1 to 4C alkyl; Z is dihalomethylene, carbonyl, etc.), to obtain a compd. expressed by formula III, then allowing the compd. of the formula III to react with a carbonyl reducing agent to obtain a compd. expressed by formula IV, and further allowing the obtd. compd. to react with a reagent and a base.
