To obtain the subject new compound having an alkyl group branched at the γ-position as a substituent on the 2-site of aniline ring, exhibiting excellent plant blight controlling effect at a low rate of application, effective even to a drug-resistant pathogen, capable of controlling various kinds of blight by a single agent and safe to crops.
This substituted carboxylic acid anilide derivative is expressed by the formula I [A is H or methyl; B is methyl or ethyl; Het is a group of the formula II or III (R1 is trifluoromethyl, etc.; R2 is H or methyl)], e.g. N-{2-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)phenyl}-2,4-dimethylthiazole-5-carboxylic acid amide. The compound of the formula I can be produced by reacting a substituted aniline of the formula IV with a carboxylic acid halide of the formula V (Z is Cl, Br or I) in molten state or in a solvent at -20 to +150°C for 30min to 5hr. A solvent inert to the reaction such as hexane is used as the reaction solvent.
