PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound useful as an agricultural and horticultural fungicide, showing excellent activity especially against downy mildew of rice plant and cucumber.
CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by formula I [R is lower alkylene or lower alkenylene; R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl or cycloalkyl or R1 and R2 are bonded to form (CH2)n ((n) is 4-6); Z is C≡N or CONH2; X and Y are halogen] such as N-(1-cyano-1-methylethyl)-2-(2,4-dichloro-3-methylphenoxy) acetamide. The compound shown by formula I is obtained by reacting a phenoxycarboxylic acid halide derivative shown by formula II with an amino compound shown by formula III preferably in the presence of a deoxidizer (e.g. NaOH) in a solvent such as diethyl ether at room temperature to the reflux temperature of the solvent.
