To provide a substrate for a liquid crystal display device having a reduced number of components.
The substrate for the display device includes first to third thin film patterns 110, 120, 130. These patterns are formed on a first face 105a of the substrate. The first thin film pattern contains a first liquid crystal aligned in a first direction to selectively transmit first light at a first wavelength having a specified polarization axis from the incident light, the second thin film pattern contains a second liquid crystal aligned in the first direction to selectively transmit second light at a second wavelength having the above polarization axis from the incident light, and the third thin film contains a third liquid crystal aligned in the first direction to transmit third light at a third wavelength having the above polarizing axis from the incident light. Thereby, the thickness and size and the number of components of the display device can be reduced.
