NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula (R1 and R2 are H or methyl; X is methyl, halogen or nitro; n is 1W3; excluding the compound wherein R1 is methyl, R2 is H and X is 2-chloro-4-nitro, and the compound wherein both R1 and R2 are H and X is 4-chloro or 3,4-dichloro).
EXAMPLE: N-2-Chloro-5-nitrophenyl-3-nitro-4-methylbenzenesulfonamide.
USE: Microbicide for agricultural and horticultural use. It exhibits excellent activity especially to bacterial blight such as bacterial leaf blight of rice and soil-infecting blight such as clubroot of cruciferous vegetables.
PROCESS: The compound of formula can be prepared, e.g. by condensing 2-chloro- 5-nitroaniline with 3-nitro-4-methylbenzenesulfone chloride in a solvent such as toluene in the presence of pyridine.
