Title:
SULFURIC ACID-REDUCING MAGNETIC BACTERIAL STRAIN RS-1 AND PRODUCTION OF MAGNETITE MAGNETIC FINE PARTICLE USING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3155118
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a magnetic bacterial strain having sulfuric acid-reducing ability, the ability to intracellularly synthesize magnetic fine particles consisting of magnetite and magnetic reactivity, useful for treating sewage, etc., using activated sludge, to be used for e.g. synthesizing superfine magnetite particles with uniform shape and size.
CONSTITUTION: Mud is collected from the bottom of a freshwater river and put into a vessel with a cover so as to be (1:3) in the weight ratio of the mud to freshwater to conduct enrichment culture for two weeks. A separatory medium is then inoculated with the water of the aqueous phase portion containing magnetic bacteria grown through the above enrichment culture and altering their motional direction in response to magnetic field under the observation by an optical microscope, and the magnetic bacteria grown in the medium are magnetically induced by a device using a sterilized capillary tube packed with sanitary cotton taking advantage of their magnetic inducibility and gathered to the sterilized water side through the sanitary cotton to effect their purification, thus obtaining the objective Desulfovibrio strain RS-1 (FERM P-13283) having the above-mentioned characteristics.
