PURPOSE: To certainly avoid knocking by temporarily reducing the aimed control supercharge pressure obtained from the engine operation state and the result in the detection of knocking, when knocking is detected.
CONSTITUTION: An operation state detecting means 10 for detecting the engine operation state such as intake air temperature, water temperature, and crank angle is installed, and a knocking detecting means 12 which detects knocking by detecting the combustion pressure in an engine combustion chamber is installed. In an aimed control supercharge pressure calculating means 14, the aimed control supercharge pressure is calculated from the output signals of the detecting means 10 and 12, and the supercharge pressure is adjusted by a supercharge pressure adjusting means 16 so that the calculated aimed control supercharge pressure is achieved. In this case, in the aimed control supercharge pressure calculating means 14, the aimed control supercharge pressure is lowered, when knocking is detected, and thus knocking is avoided, and after avoiding knocking, the aimed control supercharge pressure is speedily increased.
