Abstract:
PURPOSE:To facilitate the work of mounting a refrigerator to and dismounting it from a cryostat as well as to reduce the maintenance period of the refrigerator by a method wherein a radiant shielding plate is thermally connected to the gas piping of the freezing container containing a superconducting conductor, and the cooling pipe of the refrigerator is inserted into the gas piping. CONSTITUTION:After a refrigerator has been evacuated from A valve 22 in the state wherein a valve 21 is closed, helium gas is filled in and the valve 22 is closed. Then, liquid nitrogen is filled into a freezing medium container 4 from a freezing medium filling pipe 6, a superconducting coil 1 is cooled down to the temperature of the liquid nitrogen, and the operation of a refrigerator 11 is started. Subsequently, the liquid nitrogen collected in the cooling medium container is driven out, liquid helium 2 is filled into the cooling medium container. As a result, even when helium gas leaks a little from the casing of the refrigerator, the evaporated gas is always replenished, and an 80K shield 9 and a 20K shield can be cooled in the refrigerator casing. When a maintenance work is conducted on the refrigerator, it can be done easily without evacuating the refrigerator casing, because it is always filled up with the helium gas.
