To provide a superfine particle polymer emulsion suitable for producing an electrophotographic toner using an emulsion coagulation method and having a narrow particle size distribution and to provide a method for producing the polymer emulsion and an apparatus for production without using an organic solvent.
A resin and a solvent are introduced into a tank 10 for pressurization and heating so as to provide a prescribed ratio and the resultant mixture in the tank 10 for pressurization and heating is heated and pressurized at ≥100°C temperature. The mixture of the resin with the solvent in the tank 10 for pressurization and heating is then introduced through a pipe 12 into an emulsifier 30 with a pump 20 and dispersed and emulsified with shear force in the emulsifier 30. The produced resin emulsion is made to flow through pipes 14 and 16 into the tank 10 for pressurization and heating and circulated in a circuit a plurality of times to thereby produce a resin emulsion having a desired particle diameter and the narrow particle size distribution. The resultant resin emulsion is an emulsion having the narrow particle size distribution and ≤1μm average particle diameter.
