Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for supervisory signaling concerning a submarine optical communication apparatus on a submarine optical communication system.
SOLUTION: Status information on an optical transmission line used for transmitting data signals is transmitted according to a control signal applied to an optical attenuator through which the data signals pass. The attenuator modulates the data signal with a signal corresponding to the status information which may be e.g. information about a branching unit coupled with the optical transmission line or an optical equalizer coupled therewith.
