PURPOSE: To obtain a support structure of saddle-type superconducting coils designed to facilitate coil slide and to control heat generation or the like due to friction heat by interposing a low-friction member between the outer face of a saddle-type superconducting coil and the inner face of a coil holder.
CONSTITUTION: This structure is equipped with an interposing member 4 between the outer face of a coil end which markedly shifts relatively to a coil holder 2 particularly upon action of a saddle-type superconducting coil 1. The interposing member 4 is a double-layer type made up of the inner layer 4a fixed on the coil 1 and the outer layer 4b fixed on the coil holder 2, where the joint faces of these layers 4a, 4b are laid with bonds or coats of low-friction laminar members 3a, 3b made of teflon and polyimide, respectively. Out of the interposing member 4, at least the outer layer 4b is composed of an insulating material. The longitudinal middle part of the coil 1 has an interposal of a low-friction member 3 with the coil holder 2. This low-friction member prevents sudden movements upon action of the coil and acts to relieve the generation of friction heat.
