PURPOSE: To easily obtain the subject compd. useful as a surface active agent, etc., by the reaction of specific unsatd. aliphatic alkyls with sulfur trioxide, the introduction of the reaction product into an aq. soln. of an alkaline metal, etc., the heating thereof, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The unsatd. aliphatic alkyls or aliphatic alkyl polyalkoxy ester of formula I (R1 is oleyl, palmitoleyl, linoleyl, etc.; (n) is 2 to 4; (x) is 0 to 30; R2CO is 2 to 4C acyl) is brought into reaction with the sulfur trioxide and the reaction product is introduced into the aq. soln. of the hydroxide of the alkaline metal, alkaline earth metal or ammonium at 1 to 2.5 mol for each 1 mol of the added SO3. The soln. is then heated until the existing ester and sultone are hydrolyzed.
