Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface illumination display device which permits to obtain light of a clear and desired color for display use from a light source of a single color and also permits to provide increased productivity and decreased cost.
SOLUTION: A light source 12 emitting light of a first wavelength is provided; a fluorescent screen 21 receives the light of the first wavelength and emits light of a second wavelength longer than the first wavelength; and the light of this second wavelength and the light of the first wavelength which passed through the fluorescent screen without wavelength transformation are made incident on a filter 23 through an operation state indication plate 22. The filter 23 transmits only the light of the second wavelength of the incident light, and the light of the second wavelength, which passed through the filter 23, is led to a display surface side through a milk-white diffuser 24 and a cover plate 25, and a surface illumination display is performed in a color of light specified by only the light of the second wavelength.
