PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance uniformity and to provide high brightness luminescence by installing the upper end of a recessed light diffusion part for diffusing incoming light from an LED light source in a light guide plate on one end surface of the light guide plate, so that the upper end is apart from the upper surface at one end surface.
SOLUTION: This surface luminescent device has a light guide plate 1, so as to provide a reflecting layer on the bottom surface which is one surface of the opposite main surfaces and using the other surface as a luminescent surface 12, and LED light source 2 in which an outgoing surface faces an incoming end surface which is one end surface of the light guide plate 1, and a supporter 3 for holding the light guide plate 1 and the LED light source 2 in the prescribed position relation. In this device, a light diffusion part 11 having plural triangular prism-shaped notches 11a is formed in a part facing the outgoing surface of the LED light source 2 at the incoming surface of the light guide plate 1. Thereby, abnormal luminescence in the vicinity of the light diffusion part 11 on the luminescent surface 12 of the light guide plate 1 can be suppressed, and uniformity of in-plane distribution of luminescent intensity on the luminescent surface 12 can be improved.
