Abstract:

To provide a surface modification method of inorganic fine particles where the coating rate of a particle surface treating agent is raised and its dispersibility is enhanced for obtaining an optical element which is excellent in transparency and whose mechanical strength is simultaneously reinforced and to provide a thermoplastic composite material.

The surface modification method of the inorganic fine particles comprises as follows. The particle surface treating agent having general formula (A): X-M-OH (wherein, X exhibits an adsorbing group; and M exhibits a divalent linking group) and having a molecular weight of 80-1,000 is adsorbed on the surfaces of the inorganic fine particles and subsequently a condensation reaction is performed by further adding a hydrolyzable alkoxysilane or a silane coupling agent having a silanol group. In addition, the thermoplastic composite material is provided.
