Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a platelet-like pigment increased in light stability and reduced in the surface reactivity to an org. compd. by separating a reaction product obtained by adding a specific compd. to an aq. suspension of a platelet-like substrate coated with a TiO2 coating layer and washing the separated reaction product before heating the same to high temp.
CONSTITUTION: A water-soluble titanate, a water-soluble alkaline earth metal salt or a mixture of them and a water-soluble 1,2-diol compd. are added to an aq. suspension of a platelet-like substrate coated with TiO2 under a condition generating an alkaline earth metal titanium oxo-complex or peroxo-complex to form a reaction product which is, in turn, separated, washed and, if necessary, dried. This reaction product is subsequently ignited at least at 800°C to produce a surface-modified platelet-like pigment based on a platelet-like substrate coated with a TiO2 layer and a thin film of an alkaline earth metal titanate successively.
