Abstract:
To provide a surface-sizing agent and a surface-treating agent, which improve the offset printing aptitude of paper to be printed with offset inks, especially newsprint, and to provide paper, especially newsprint, which can well be offset-printed.
Provided is a surface-sizing agent characterized by containing a polymer [B] obtained by polymerizing at least hydrophobic monomers containing a (meth)acrylate having a 4-12C branched alkyl group in the presence of a cationic emulsifier [A] which is the copolymer of monomers comprising at least a 4-12C branched alkyl group-having (meth)acrylate (a1), a styrene compound (a2), and a dialkylaminoalkyl (meth)acrylate (a3) and has a cationization degree of 0.6-1.3 meq/gsolid at pH 7.
