Abstract:

PURPOSE: To form on a metal substrate a polymer film excellent in not only adherence to the substrate but homogeneity, bondability, corrosion resistance, etc.

CONSTITUTION: A metal substrate is coated with a polymer after the substrate surface has been treated with a surface-treating agent comprising an aromatic thiol (derivative) having a group reactive with the metal substrate and a group undergoing graft polymerization with a monomer for the polymer. The this is preferably either an aromatic thiol derivative having a thiophene or pyrrole ring or a phenylthiol derivative represented by formula I or II (wherein R is H or CH3 and m is 0-5).
