To provide a surface treating device for trolley wires capable of applying a chemical treatment to an existing trolley wire, for example, for removing an oxides skin, very efficiently and safely using an automatic means.
The surface treating device is equipped with a running drive means 1 to work on a track R for electric railcars, a treatment liquid coating machine 2 to move along a trolley wire T with the running drive means 1, and an elevating/sinking means 3 for the coating machine 2. The coating machine 2 has a liquid trough 21, a coating roll 22 with the lower part immersed in the treatment liquid L in the trough 21, and a rotation driving means 23 for the roll 22. The elevating/sinking means 3 displaces the coating machine 2 between the up-position where the upper part of the roll 22 contacts with the trolley wire T and the down-position in which the upper part separates downward from the trolley wire T.
