Abstract:
PURPOSE: To firmly wind a web winding roll without slipping on the surface of a drum in a three drum cradle type surface winder.
CONSTITUTION: In a surface winder and a surface winding method, a three drum cradle has first and second winding drums 11, 17 spaced from each other, and the speed profile of the second winding drum 17 is controlled to substantially eliminate slippage between the second winding drum 17 and a web W wound on a core. This control is achieved by increasing the speed of the second drum 17 as a function of the increasing diameter of a wound roll after the partially wound roll passes a space between the first and second winding drums 11, 17.
