To provide a surgical support device that is capable of being reliably operated and has a simple configuration.
The surgical support device includes: a driving rod 11 which is moved to transmit a driving force to a target; a linear encoder 13 configure to measure a moving amount of the driving rod 11 at one predetermined position; an encoder 20 configured to measure a moving amount of the driving rod 11 at another position different from the predetermined position; a difference calculation portion configured to detect a difference in length between the moving amount detected by the linear encoder 13 and the moving amount detected by the encoder 20; an operating force computing portion configured to compute a magnitude of a force transmitted to the target from the driving rod 11 based on the difference in length; and a breakdown detection portion configured to detect at least one of the linear encoder 13 and the encoder 20 which has broken down, by use of the moving amount detected by the linear encoder 13 and the moving amount detected by the encoder 20.
