PURPOSE: To obtain a lightweight leaf spring for a suspension system having two-stage spring constants and achieve smooth transition of the spring constants.
CONSTITUTION: A dual leaf spring 26B is composed of a first spring plate 36 and a second spring plate 40 which engaged with each other under a high loading and disengage from each other under a low loading. Two ends of the first spring plate are in slidable contact with suspension means 48, 52 of a trailer frame 30. Each of the spring plates is formed to include a profile which closely approximates a parabola defined by a series of linear taper segments. An effective length of the second spring plate engaged with the first second spring plate due to the increase of the loading and an effective length of the first spring plate due to the engagement with the suspension means are reduced.
