To select a value of a start resistor in accordance with operation modes in a switching power supply apparatus having a plurality of operation modes.
The switching power supply apparatus includes a transformer having primary winding, secondary winding and auxiliary winding, the plurality of the start resistors different in resistance values and a main switching element which is connected to the primary winding and is turned on by voltage generated in the start resistor or the auxiliary winding. The switching power supply apparatus also includes a selection circuit for selecting the start resistor operating on the main switching element in the plurality of the start resistors in accordance with the plurality of the operation modes which the switching power supply apparatus has.
