PURPOSE: To provide a printer for continuous operation which is capable of printing replacement copies continuously without stopping a printer and at the same time, printing a sheet with high print quality efficiently, even on both surfaces of the sheet.
CONSTITUTION: Switchover printing units 11, 12 which are used for switchover selection are provided on a printing machine 10. These units are switched over alternately with a web for printing allowed to run by switching first means for connection/disconnection 100, 101 ON/OFF. In addition, a printing plate is changed during its suspended operation using individual drive means 128, 129 so that the web is printed continuously. Further, a printing plate is replaced on the printing unit in suspended operation using each drive means 128, 129 so that the unit is allowed to stand by for next printing. The printing unit in suspended operation is synchronously controlled at printing speed using a means for rotation control 156 to return to a print mode.
