Title:
SYNDIOTACTIC POLYSTYRENE HAVING IMPROVED IMPACT RESISTANCE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH09104795
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To obtain a syndiotactic polystyrene having improved impact resistance by using a small amount of an impact modifier by mixing a syndiotactic polystyrene with two specified impact modifiers.

This syndiotactic polystyrene having improved impact resistance comprises 65-95 pts.wt. syndiotactic polystyrene (A) and 5-35 pts.wt. impact modifier component (B) consisting of at least two impact modifiers being a block copolymer (a) composed of PS blocks and hydrogenated polybutadiene blocks and a core/shell polymer (b) in which the core is made of a butadiene homopolymer or a copolymer of butadiene with 25% or below styrene monomer or the like, and the first or second shell is made of a styrene homopolymer or a copolymer of styrene with 25wt.% or below (meth)acrylonitrile or the like. The impact strength of the improved blend should be higher than that of a blend modified with the same amount of agent (a) alone, and higher than that of a blend modified with the same amount of agent (b) alone.
