Abstract:

PURPOSE: To efficiently synthesize 1-aminoanthraquinone useful for a dye or the like by allowing a substituted benzoic acid derivative to react with xylene under a specific condition.

CONSTITUTION: 2-Substituted dimethyl benzophenones are obtained by condensing 2-substituted benzoic acid or the derivative and xylene in the presence of hydrogen fluoride. The 2-substituted dimethyl bezophenones are oxidized to produce 2-substituted benzophenone dicarboxylic acid. The benzophenone dicarboxylic acids are brought into contact with an acid to close the ring and to obtain 1-substituted anthraquinone carboxylic acids. The objective compound is synthesized by allowing the anthraquinone carboxylic acids to catalytically react with ammonia or amine expressed by the formula of RNH2 (R represents an alkyl, a cycloalkyl or an aryl) to substitute a substituent in the 1-position by ammonia and decarboxylating.
