Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a substituted phenyl compound having high regioselectivity of alkyl group and useful as an intermediate for electronic materials and pharmaceuticals by a simple method by reacting a cyclohexenone derivative with an aromatic sulfone derivative.
SOLUTION: The substituted phenyl compound of formula II (e.g. hexylbenzene) can be produced by successively adding an organic metal (e.g. butyllithium) to an aromatic sulfone derivative of the formula: PhSO2(CH2)nX (X is a 1-10C alkyl or the like; (n) is 1-5), a cyclohexenone derivative of formula I (R1 to R4 are each a 1-10C alkyl or H), an electrophilic agent (e.g. benzoyl chloride) and a basic metal alkoxide (e.g. t-butoxypotassium) in the order and reacting the components.
