PURPOSE: To obtain a tetrathioperrhenate salt in a short time and in good yield by bringing an oxygen-contg. Re compd. into contact with a soln. of ammonium sulfide or polysulfide in the presence of a cation capable of forming an insoluble salt with tetrathioperrhenic acid.
CONSTITUTION: A water-soluble oxygen-contg. Re compd. such as rhenium oxide of a rhenium salt contg. an oxyanion such as ReO4- is brought into contact with an aq. solution of ammonium sulfide or polysulfide in the presence of a cation capable of forming a water-insoluble oxygen-contg. Re compd. with tetrathioperrhenic acid. In this case, the soln. is kept at pH 8-11, preferably at 9-10. A tetraalkylammonium ion is exemplified as the cation. Further, in the contact, the reaction mixture is mixed for a sufficient time to complete the formation of tetrathioperrhenate, and then the tetrathioperrhenate is recovered as the precipitate in high yield.
