To obtain a bookbinding device connected to an image forming apparatus, where the heating of an adhesive is appropriately controlled, thereby restraining the volatile component of the adhesive causing a nasty smell, moderating an unpleasant feeling of surrounding operators and achieving power saving in power consumption by a heater.
In the system in which the image forming apparatus and the bookbinding device are connected to each other, the adhesive 20, an adhesive heater 22, and an adhesive heater control means 23 are provided in the book binding device 1; a communication means 3 mediating the transmission/reception of a signal is provided between the image forming apparatus 2 and the bookbinding device 1; and a judgement means 30 and an instruction means 31 are provided in the image forming apparatus 2. The instruction means 31 issues a first instruction to the adhesive heater control means 23 through the communication means 3 according to the result of first judgement by the judgement means 30, and the adhesive heater control means 23 receives the first instruction and controls the adhesive heater 22 by a first method.
