The system for measuring the joint fissure width has a joint image input part for inputting the images of the joint, a contour detecting part for detecting the contours of a pair of bones constituting the joint, a measuring range setting part for setting the measuring range of the fissure of the joint based on the contour detected by the contour detecting part, a fissure width calculating part for calculating the fissure width being the distance across the pair of bones in the measuring range set by the measuring range setting part as the distance across the two points where the predetermined straight line crosses the contour of the pair of bones in the measuring range, and a display part for displaying the fissure width calculated by the fissure width calculating part.
