To provide an apparatus allowing a caller of telephone subscriber using no computer to surf an information network over the telephone connection to access information of interest to the caller.

An apparatus includes a telephone connection allowing an individual caller from among a population of subscribers to make an incoming call to the central apparatus, a menu selection acceptor operative to accept at least one menu selection from the individual caller, a server connecting the in-coming call to an information network and surfing the information network responsive to the caller's menu selections to access textual information of interest to the caller, and a text, speech converter operative to convert the textual information of interest to the caller into speech output and to feed the speech output over the telephone connection to the individual caller.
