PURPOSE: To accurately control the amount of an additive injected into fuel.
CONSTITUTION: An injection system and a method for blending the additive into a main fluid flow stream at a controlled ratio is characterized by a controller wherein an electrical circuitry thereof is housed in an explosion-proof housing 60 having a window 63 through which electromagnetic energy such as an infrared command signal can be transmitted. The electrical circuitry includes a receiver 154 for receiving the electromagnetic energy transmitted through the window 63 and a processor for decoding information included in the electromagnetic energy and for carrying out one or more functions based on the information. An additive injection correction tecnique, a line cleaning tecnique and related and other features of the system and the method are also disclosed.
