Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a level monitor system for recording signal strength on an LAN cable. CONSTITUTION: When an information frame is transmitted, a system judges signal strength and the address of the origin of transmission. An LAN collision monitor is attached to an LAN, and this is provided with incoming signal filters 1002 and 1008. The first filter captures the level of the preamble of an LAN signal with 5MHz band width, and the second filter captures the level of a disturbing signal with 10MHz band width. The output is converted into a digital value by an A/D converter 1016, and stores in an FIFO 1026, and the preamble signal level of the transmitting node is recorded. When collision is detected, this node stops the transmission, and transfers the disturbing signal, and it is recorded. Therefore, the signal levels of the original transmitting node and the node in which the collision is generated are stored in the FIFO 1026 of the LAN collision monitor, and each signal level data are collected in the LAN level monitor. They are compared so that the addresses of the transmitting node and the node in which the collision is generated can be judged and displayed to a user.
