PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration of bit error rate at the time of line fault by cross-resetting the cross polarization interference compensator of the opposite polarization at the reception side of a hop when the hop line is disconnected and transmitting pseudo signals to the next hop to maintain the succeeding operation of the cross polarization compensator.
CONSTITUTION: When one polarization, for example, a V polarization is disconnected in a certain hop, the receiver of the hop cross-resets a cross polarization interference compensator in a reception demodulation section 51H being the opposite polarization. At the same time, the next hop is replaced by the original transmission signal. A selector 53 selects a pseudo signal from a pseudo signal generation section 52 to be sent from a demodulation transmission section 54 to the next hop. Thus, it appears that the next or later hop is transmitted as a correct signal, resulting in keeping the operation of the cross polarization compensator of the next hop and later. As a result, the compensation of the XPD deterioration can be enabled in the next or later hop, preventing the deterioration of bit error rate of the line.
