To provide a tactile force applying type input device which has a lock feeling (wall feeling) to inhibit the rotation of a knob, and in which the release of the lock of the knob can be carried out by a simple constitution.
This device is provided with a rotary encoder 2 to detect the rotating direction and rotating angle of an operation knob 1 to be rotation-operated, a rotating action regulating means 3 to give a rotating force to the operation knob 1 and to regulate the rotating angle, an elastic member 8 coupled with the rotating action regulating means 3, and a control part 9 to control the rotating action regulating means 3. Then, in such a state that the rotation of the operation knob 1 is inhibited by the rotating action regulating means 3, when the operation knob 1 is rotation-operated, the rotating direction of the operating force given to the operation knob 1 is detected because the elastic member 8 is bent, and a rotating direction signal corresponding to the rotating direction is outputted by the rotary encoder 2.
