To produce the subject new compound, having suppressing actions on the production of interleukin I and useful as a preventing and therapeutic agent for rheumatism or an immunosuppressant, etc., in organ transplantation by culturing a microorganism, belonging to the genus Streptomyces and having the ability to produce TAN-2178.
This new compound as TAN-2178 (salt) of the formula [R1 is a 1-6C alkyl; R2 and R4 are each a (substituted)hydroxyl group; R3 is 2- methylpropyl or 2-methyl-2-propenyl; R5 is hydroxyl group; R6 is a halogen or a (substituted)thiol; R5 and R6, together with the adjacent C, may each form an oxirane ring]. The compound has suppressing actions on the production of interleukin I and is useful as a preventing and therapeutic agent for rheumatism, a therapeutic or preventing agent for interleukin I-dependent tumor or an immunosuppressant, etc., in organ transplantation. The compound is obtained by culturing a microorganism, belonging to the genus Streptomyces and having the ability to produce the compound TAN-2178 [e.g. Streptomyces sp. AL-78099 strain (FERM BP-5094)].
