PURPOSE: To obtain a tanning agent containing a specific dialdehyde as an effective material for tanning, which does not have defects of an existing dialdehyde-containing tanning agent, and has fewer environmental problems by including specific polymers in the tanning agent.
CONSTITUTION: This tanning agent containing an ω,ω'-dialdehyde of formula I ((r) is a value from 2 to 8), optionally in a deactivated form, as an effective material for tanning contains OH group-containing polymers comprising; 95-0 wt.% monomers of formula II (R1 represents H, CH3 or CH2COOH; R2 represents H, CH3, phenyl or COOH, provided that two or more COOH are not included) or formula III (A represents HC=CH or H2C=C-CH2), 0-90 wt.% monomers of formula IV [R3 represents H, CH3; R4 represents at least one OH substituted 1-12C (cyclo)alkyl], 0-100 wt.% monomers of formula V (R5 represents a 1-2C alkyl) and 0-80 wt.% monomers of formula VI [R'3 is the same as R3; R6 represents a 1-12C (cyclic)alkyl].
