CONSTITUTION: When a tape 6 inserted between an LED 30S and a photo transistor (TR) 44S is a transparent leader tape, a light in a frequency fO from the LED 30S is fed mostly to the TR 44S, the level of the components of the frequency fO fed from a buffer circuit 51 to a comparator 63 is larger than a prescribed value, a tape end deciding signal SeS goes to 1 to detect the tape end of the supply reel 20S. When the tape 6 between the LED 30T and the photo TR 44T is a transparent leader tape, the light of the frequency fO from the LED 30T is fed mostly to the TR 44T, a tape end discrimination signal SeT goes to 1. Thus, the tape end of the reel 20T is detected by the signal SeT. Further, diodes 30S, 30T are driven by pulses P3, P5 whose phase are inverted to each other.
