PURPOSE: To select a mode projecting all horizontal video signals on a display surface so as to reduce the area of a black/white part at both ends and a mode cutting a quantity obtained by overscanning the horizontal display area of a projecting screen in a vertical direction at the time of projecting the video signal of an aspect ratio 4:3 on the display surface of a wide aspect ratio.
CONSTITUTION: The receiver is provided with the setting means 3 of a setting value A diciding the fetching range of a video, the setting means 4 of a setting value B deciding a range fetching all horizontal video area and a selection switch 5 selecting the setting means 3 or 4. When the setting value A is selected, the luminance signal of a prescribed level is inserted into the prescribed area and the extra area on both sides of the video to be projected. When the setting value B is selected, the video of the aspect ratio 4:3 is time-axis-compressed along with keeping an out-of-roundness and the luminance signal of the prescribed level is inserted into the extra area on the both side of the video so as to project all the horizontal video area.
