PURPOSE: To make it possible to diaplay a game pattern corresponding to the kind of an image by detecting and storing a program code added to VTR and then by superimposing a pattern signal from a program upon a video signal.

CONSTITUTION: When a signal from VTR given a program code is supplied to terminal 21, the program code converted into a digital waveform by slicing circuit 30 is inputted to CPU14 via interface circuit 31. Then, CPU14 stores it in RAM16 and executes this program to store a game pattern signal for screen display in RAM17. On the other hand, a DMAOUT request signal for DMA operation by control circuit 26 is supplied to CPU14 by a control clock formed from the video signal by clock generating circuit 25 so as to read the pattern signal in RAM17 out to shift register 18. This pattern data is superimposed upon the video signal of VTR and composite synchronous signal SYNC by mixer 28 and then supplied from terminal 32 to the TV receiver via RF modulation circuit 29.
