PURPOSE: To always make both eyes coincident independently of the position of a talking party and to attain natural conversation by arranging an image pickup device picking up a talker so as to be surrounded by a display device.
CONSTITUTION: An eye of a party observing a display device is laid on in the vicinity of an image pickup device by arranging the image pickup device to a position on which an eye of a talking opposite party seems to fall, resulting that the effect of coincident eyes of talking parties is caused. For example, in the case of using a rear face projection type display device, the light from a CRT forms an image on a screen via a lens and a reflecting plate and is displayed. A small camera is fitted in the middle of the screen to implement image pickup from the middle of the pattern. The fine-adjustment to make the camera coincident with the eye is implemented by driving the screen provided with the reflecting plate and the camera. Moreover, in order to avoid the production of a shadow of the camera, the lens and the reflecting plate are adjusted so as to align the optical axis in parallel with the optical axis of the camera.
