PURPOSE: To execute a temperature control by a simple circuit and at a low cost by detecting a current for flowing to a heating layer of a heating and fixing roller at every prescribed interval, comparing its current value with a reference current value and controlling a feed to the heating layer.
CONSTITUTION: As for a temperature characteristic of a resistance value of a heating element layer 3 of a heating and fixing roller, the resistance value R becomes high as a temperature T increases, and accordingly, a current for flowing to the heating element layer decreases as a temperature rises, therefore, by utilizing this temperature - current characteristic, a temperature control of a fixing roller 1 is executed. That is, by monitoring a current I of a heating layer at a prescribed interval and based on a current value Io of the heating layer at a set temperature of the fixing roller as a reference, the feed is stopped or switched to a low current when the current I is ≤Io, and when said current is ≥Io, the feed is executed by a full output until the current I reaches Io. In such a way, a temperature controller for the fixing roller, which is excellent in responsiveness, simple and small in size, and also, low in cost is obtained.
