Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize the temperature control of a fixing device and to prolong the life of a fixing heater by changing the quantity of temperature deviation on a high temperature side and/or temperature deviation on a low temperature side corresponding to the conditions in the case of temperature control based on the width of hysteresis.
SOLUTION: Fixing temperature is monitored by a microcomputer 31. When the detected temperature is equal to or under the deviation temperature on the low temperature side set at present, a heater lamp 28 is turned on and the measurement of the temperature and that of a timer are started. When the detected temperature is equal to or above the deviation temperature on the high temperature side set at present, the heater lamp 28 is turned off and the measurement of the temperature and that of the timer are finished. Then, a temperature gradient is calculated by an expression; temperature gradient(°C/sec) = (temperature rise attained while the heater lamp is on)/(time taken while the heater lamp is on). In the case the temperature gradient is larger than reference gradient(10°C/see), the temperature deviation set at present is made small, and in the case the measured temperature gradient is smaller, processing that the temperature deviation is made large or is not changed is performed.
